Give Kids A Smile 2012!
On February 3, 2012 we will be holding the 10th Annual Iowa Falls Give Kids A Smile Day. Along with Drs. Paul and Quinn Hoversten and Mike Colwell, Dr. Craig and Dr. Brad Miller will be providing free dental work for children in our school district who are need of treatment and do not have access to regular dental care.
Our local Give Kids A Smile program is part of the larger National Give Kids A Smile Day sponsored by the American Dental Association on the same day. Over the last 10 years our offices have donated over $50,000 in free dental treatment on Give Kids A Smile Day.
Beyond the treatment provided, we hope that this event raises awareness of the problem of access to dental care here in Iowa and across the country. Our office will always see any child with Medicaid coverage, but there are those who do not qualify for Medicaid yet don't have insurance and can't afford dental care. For those, the state of Iowa has a great program in Hawk-i health and dental insurance. Families that qualify for the Hawk-i insurance get coverage at a very reduced rate that can make it affordable for most children to receive dental care. If that is also not an option, Give Kids A Smile and the Iowa Mission of Mercy may be the only avenues for kids to get care.
